Our First Goat Derby,
a Greener Vision for Diani
Diani, thank you for welcoming us.
Our First Official Event in Diani—and a Beginning We’ll Never Forget
Being part of the Diani Charity Goat Derby 2026 marked our first official appearance at a local event as Eco Friendly Events Diani.
It was our chance to introduce ourselves, show you what we do and share something we care deeply about: bringing Diani a sustainable, eco-friendly way to celebrate, crafted locally with love and care for our environment.
We hope this day marks the beginning of more people in Diani looking beyond plastic and embracing eco-friendly event setups as the new norm.
On 11 October, at Diamonds Leisure Beach & Golf Resort, we were proud to join an occasion that brings people together for fun, fundraising and a good cause. For us, it was also an opportunity to meet the people we hope to create many more celebrations with.
For everyone who met us there, and everyone discovering us now, we’d like to introduce ourselves properly.
Made Locally. Built to Celebrate Again and Again.
We are Eco Friendly Events Diani, a local business providing reusable event equipment and setups for weddings, parties, company gatherings and community celebrations across Diani and Kwale.
Our equipment is made from wood and other sustainable materials, with local production here in Diani and Ukunda. From seating and tables to canopies and shaded spaces, we create welcoming setups that suit your occasion and can be used again at the next one.
Our mission is simple: A new eco-friendly option to Diani’s events, with locally crafted setups made from wood and other sustainable materials, created with love and care for your occasion and the environment. Every piece is built to be used and enjoyed again, helping reduce unnecessary waste while supporting the skills of local craftspeople. For us, protecting the place we call home starts with practical choices—what we make, how we make it and what happens to it after the guests go home. We want to make those choices easier for anyone planning an event in Diani, bringing beautiful celebrations and greater care for our surroundings together.
We want to show that a beautiful celebration can start with what is made right here, by local hands, with care and a purpose that lasts beyond a single afternoon.
One Day of Celebration Shouldn’t Mean One Day of Use
An industry study shows how much material goes into events—and how little of it gets used again. 42% of event construction materials measured were used only once, while 84% were newly produced virgin materials.
And reuse is only part of the picture. Plastic and synthetic tents can certainly be used many times, but their environmental footprint begins long before the first event. For equipment manufactured in China or elsewhere overseas, that includes raw material production, manufacturing, international shipping and onward road transport—all of which carry emissions and costs that can easily be overlooked.
Our solution is to manufacture locally, use wood and other sustainable materials, and build equipment for repeated use. Producing here in Diani and Ukunda helps us reduce reliance on imported finished equipment, support local craftsmanship and offer affordable setups designed for many celebrations.
Diani, Your Support Means the World. Literally.
As a young local business, showing our work to the community for the first time was a big moment. Seeing it so warmly accepted made us extremely proud.
To everyone who took an interest in our setups, recognised the effort behind them or offered encouragement: thank you. That support gives us confidence to keep building and improving what we do.
As awareness of global warming grows, so does the importance of thinking about what we buy, what we build and what we throw away. The welcome we received in Diani gives us hope that more people want sustainable options for their celebrations—and are ready to support the local businesses working to provide them.
Our contribution starts with the choices we can make here: manufacturing locally, caring for our equipment and using it again and again.
Seeing fellow Diani residents recognise that effort means the world to us. Literally.
A Big Thank You to the People Behind the Derby
A heartfelt thank you to Diamonds Leisure Beach & Golf Resort for hosting the Goat Derby on their grounds and providing the setting for such a special community occasion.
To Pauline McKenzie, thank you for inviting us and giving us the opportunity to show Diani what we are capable of. Above all, thank you for the dedication you have put into organising the Goat Derby successfully over the years. Bringing people together and keeping an event like this going takes commitment, energy and an enormous amount of work. We are grateful to have been included.
To Michael Hughes, thank you for your organisation and your brilliant work as MC. Your energy and character are such a memorable part of the occasion—a true Diani legend.
And to all the other sponsors, organisers, volunteers and supporters who worked together to make the day happen: thank you. We were proud to be part of it alongside you.
Our First Event Is Just the Beginning
